City of Darebin – Focus Group

City of Darebin recruited LOTE to investigate the effectiveness of their multilingual communications policy. The research aimed to identify satisfaction levels with existing methods of information distribution, suggestions for policy improvement and preferences of communication outlets for council policy and guidelines.

There was an overall preference for face-to-face interpreting and a strong request for better quality translated information on a wide range of council topics. Ethnic radio and newspapers emerged as the ideal media outlets, with the additional suggestion of including multilingual audio on council’s website to overcome literacy issues.

 

Campaign achievements and outcomes

The findings assisted Darebin in redeveloping their multicultural communications policy, which they believe will take them into the next decade with a clear strategic vision.
